Wellbeing
Emotional and psychological well-being affects how we think, feel and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices (Mental Health.gov)
At Parkhill Infants’ School we are dedicated to supporting the emotional health and wellbeing of our pupils.
We know that everyone experiences life challenges that can make us vulnerable and at times, we all may need additional emotional support. We aim to promote a positive awareness of mental health and wellbeing and effective support and signposting for our school community.
As a school we:
- Ensure children are comfortable in sharing any concerns or worries
- Listen
- Help children to form and maintain healthy relationships
- Help children to understand their emotions and feelings
- Promote high self- esteem
- Ensure every child knows that they are valued and that they belong
- Encourage children to be confident and dare to be different
- Support children in developing emotional resilience and in managing setbacks
We promote a mentally healthy environment by:
- Ensuring our school is safe, clean, attractive and well cared for
- Promoting our school values
- Encouraging a sense of belonging
- Promoting pupil voice and opportunities to participate in decision making
- Celebrating all achievements, academic and non-academic
- Providing opportunities to develop a sense of worth through taking responsibility for themselves and others
- Providing opportunities to reflect on events and behaviours
- Surrounding our children with adults who model positive and appropriate behaviours at all times
- Ensuring that we provide the right support for all
- Providing a dedicated member of staff for Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing
We will provide support through:
- Whole school approaches
- Individual support for pupils going through difficulties such as bereavement
- Targeted approaches aimed at pupils with more complex or long term difficulties
