PSHE at Parkhill Infants' School

Do not judge me by my successes. Judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.

Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of a society. It aims to help them understand how they are developing personally and socially, and tackles many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.
We provide our children with learning opportunities across and beyond the curriculum, in specific lessons, circle time, special school initiatives and other activities that enrich pupils’ experiences. As a Unicef Gold school these principles are embedded throughout the school, allowing pupils to learn about rights and responsibilities, and to appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society.
Mindfulness: children meditating as part of PSHE
Our children are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community. We raise money for local and national charities, and donate to local foodbanks, encouraging the children to think of others.
At Parkhill Infants' School we embrace the ways in which PSHE supports many of the principles of safeguarding and its close links to the school’s Safeguarding and British Values Policies.
Wes Streeting MP visits the school
Each class elects both a school councillor and a Unicef Ambassador. This gives the children a voice in school and encourages their active participation in school life. Our school councillors met with our local MP Wes Streeting to take him on a tour of our school, tell him all about our curriculum and to show him our new school library.
Our PSHE VISION
That our children grow to become resilient, confident, empathetic and respectful.
That they can keep themselves and others safe.
That they can and want to make a difference in the world.
We implement our PSHE curriculum via the Jigsaw Scheme. Jigsaw gives a mindful approach to PSHE, bringing together PSHE education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning.
Teaching strategies are varied and take account of preferred learning styles and the need for differentiation. Jigsaw is designed as a whole school approach, with all year groups working on the same theme at the same time. This enables a whole school focus.
In Parkhill Infant School we believe mindfulness to be a vital tool for life, as it supports the regulation of emotion and builds emotional resilience, enhances focus and concentration and hence helps and optimises learning. We practise breathing exercises, relaxation, visualisation and acceptance of self and others.
I like circle time with Jigsaw Joe. I like saying "I agree... I disagree".
Hummingbird Class, Y2
I liked when we made our birds with our group and we learned to have different roles and work together.
Nightingale Class , Y2
Education should develop children's personality, talent, mental and phycical abilities, it should prepare a child for active participation in free society and encourage a child to respect their own and other people's culture.
